Scientific Collections of the Georg-August-University Göttingen
"Academic cabinets whose entire purpose is that they are not intended for splendor, but only for use, study and teaching."
The University of Göttingen preserves one of the most important holdings of scientific collections. At over 30 locations spread across the Göttingen campus, the collections reflect its disciplinary diversity: the spectrum ranges from archaeology to zoology, from astrophysical instruments to the living cell cultures of the algae collection. Historic old collections date back to the Age of Enlightenment: the founding collections of the Royal Academic Museum of the Georgia Augusta have been largely preserved. Research and teaching still access the collection objects today and increase the holdings. Use this portal to get to know our collections, which have been used to create knowledge for three centuries.
