Between 1951 and 1972, they produced around 60 such replicas based on a series of human tissue section specimens that were used without the knowledge or consent of the women concerned. Taken all together, these replicas, enlarged to facilitate observation with the naked eye, form a model of human embryonic development from the time of fertilisation to the eighth week of development.
