Lehrfächer wie Entomologie (Insektenkunde), allgemeine Zoologie, Ornithologie (Vogelkunde) und Säugetierkunde prägen die Ausrichtung der Sammlung. Der zunehmende Fokus auf das Zusammenwirken vielfacher Komponenten im Waldökosystem schlägt sich in der Sammlung nieder.
